Review
Absolute Masterpiece! Tillison did admire Woody Guthrie but is no mere imitator. Tillison is a travelin man, and the ambience here is a tough Southwestern saloon on a Saturday night. Tomorow he'll be moving on again. He has lots of stories to tell in his songs, and every one is a prize.
Tillison covers Bob Dylan's "Down In The Flood", Woody Guthrie's "Old Cracked Looking Glass," and Don Nix's "Yazoo City Jail" with wonderful enthusiasm. His own "Good Time Girl" is a real foot stomper, and his originals show him to have considerable songwriting ability.
Tillison is a powerful country blues singer with superior material and a band that really sizzles! Jesse Ed Davis plays some mean guitars and banjo. Davis as record producer is perfect here.
